GODZILLA VS. KONG (2021) After the release of three films

Godzilla (Gareth Edwards, 2014), Kong: Skull Island (Jordan Vogt-Roberts, 2017), and Godzilla: King of the Monsters (Michael Dougherty, 2019) – the two main characters in Legendary Entertainment 's MonsterVerse storytelling universe , Godzilla and Kong, finally got the opportunity to share the screen as well as the story line through Godzilla vs. Kong . Godzilla vs. Kong itself is not the first time for the two monster characters to be in the same film. Toho Studios has produced and released King Kong vs. Godzilladirected by Ishirō Honda in 1962 which also served as the inspiration for the narrative of this film. Like the three previous films, this film manages to offer performances that explore the quality of audio and visual arrangements to the fullest. At the same time, through the direction of Adam Wingard ( Death Note , 2017) on a script written by Eric Pearson ( Thor: Ragnarok , 2017) and Max Borenstein – who wrote the scripts for three films in the previous MonsterVerse series , Godzilla vs. Kong was successfully presented with a denser and more compelling story quality.

At the end of the story of Godzilla: King of the Monsters , Godzilla's character transforms into a hero for humans after he manages to defeat a monster known as King Ghidorah who is trying to destroy the Earth. Set five years after the event, Godzilla vs. Kong begins his story with the character Godzilla who suddenly reappears on Earth and attacks a research facility owned by a technology company called Apex Cybernetics. The owner of Apex Cybernetics, Walter Simmons ( Demián Bichir ), then recruits two researchers, Dr. Nathan Lind ( Alexander Skarsgård ) and Dr. Ilene Andrews ( Rebecca Hall), to bring Kong, who has been isolated on Skull Island, to Hollow Earth, who is thought to have a source of power that can be used to control Godzilla's existence. Unfortunately, on their way, Godzilla attacks Kong which can not only cause the death of the two monsters but also many humans around them.

Is Godzilla vs. Kong has found the right storytelling formula to explore the human characters in his storytelling timeline? Not really. As experienced by Godzilla , Kong: Skull Island , and Godzilla: King of the Monsters , the human characters present in the story of Godzilla vs. Kong still gets an immersion that feels so minimalist – in fact, it often only exists as a plot device that is useful for moving or finishing the story. The adventures experienced by the characters played by Millie Bobby Brown , Brian Tyree Henry , andJulian Dennison in this film clearly feels present in this usability function. Not a bad touch but, unfortunately, can't be packed with interesting characterization. Luckily, a number of human characters in the Godzilla vs. Kong can still be presented strongly. The story of the connection that occurs between Kong's character and a child character named Jia ( Kaylee Hotlee ) may seem so simple (read: cliché). However, the exploration carried out by Wingard makes the elements of the story able to appear emotionally effective in many parts.

Wingard also seems to have really understood the universe of storytelling from the film he directed. When the plot related to human characters still seems weak, Wingard then chooses to strengthen the presentation of the layers of stories that surround his monster characters. The focus given to the characters of Godzilla and Kong is presented to the maximum – with the character of Kong even occasionally being able to be presented with a touch that feels so personal. The feud between the Godzilla characters and Kong is also well worked out. Starting from the sound system, cinematography, image arrangement, to the action choreography that is highlighted during the battle of the two monster characters, it will definitely be able to captivate the eyes of all who witness. Tata cultivated music Tom Holkenborgis also one of the keys to the success of the story of Godzilla vs. Kong . The presence of a third “monster” that appears in the latter half of the film's storytelling is also able to further increase the intensity of the storytelling of this film. Such a thrilling show.

Godzilla vs. Kong clearly still leaves ample room for the development of a story that should be able to appear stronger. However, it's hard to deny that Wingard managed to give his best touch in managing a story that has a more complete focus on monster characters who clearly can't tell stories independently. Weaknesses listed in the three films in the MonsterVerse seriesPreviously it was still felt but Wingard, with the help of the story script by Pearson and Borenstein, was able to provide a more dense narrative so that these weak points no longer felt so disturbing. Not to forget, Wingard's direction is also able to push the quality of production to the best level to present a classy action presentation of the battle of two iconic monster characters. The best series in MonsterVerse .
