There's no denying the feeling of excitement that was immediately felt when I heard that director James Gunn ( Guardians of the Galaxy ) would be handling the film The Suicide Squad .
And how not? This is JAMES FREAKIN' GUNN! The figure of a director whose films have a look and feel like rock music that is indifferent, eccentric, but ends with a very bombastic quality.
But indeed, at the same time, the feeling of anxiety is still very strong. Because as we know, the reputation of the DC cinematic world (DCEU) is still not that good.
Indeed, the last few films, such as Aquaman, Shazam, and Wonder Woman 1984 , have improved fans ' view of this MCU rival . But overall, the DCEU is still far enough away from rivaling the MCU.
Now, by looking at the two combinations of reactions, therefore, we are even more excited and hype to watch The Suicide Squad . Then did all this hype and excitement really pay off in the end?

Suicide Squad Flavor James Gunn
Without further ado, yep, all our hype and enthusiasm for the sequel and stand-alone of Suicide Squad (2016) has paid off successfully. As soon as we see this film, we will immediately throw away the first film.
And the main reason is James Gunn, who succeeded in making The Suicide Squad like the Gunn films that we know so far. Anyway, if you've ever been, or even, a big fan of the Gunn film, surely you understand what and how the Gunn film is.
Starting from the shooting style like an independent film, super silly jokes, a script that is very relaxed and easy for us to digest, to of course the choice of cool songs that become the soundtrack of the film, all of Gunn's trademarks are in the film.
So in other words, those of you who are DC fans but not Gunn fans , will like it, and you who are Gunn fans but “ neighbors” fans, will also like it . If the word is cool, it 's "win-win situation" .
A Much More Likeable Suicide Squad Team
However, through this review of The Suicide Squad , I can say that Gunn's capable hard work wouldn't be as fun as this if the actors weren't as cool and fun at work.
WOW guys ! Even those of us who are the audience watching from home, really feel that the appearance and the chemistry between the actors are much more compact. In fact, it feels much more family-friendly than the actors in the first film.
Also than the Suicide Squad team, the DC villain characters who are members of The Suicide Squad team , are much more charismatic and likeable . Everything is in accordance with the application of Gunn's vision which is very fun to this film.
After all, as we all know, it is this 55-year-old director who personally chooses each member of his The Suicide Squad team .
All Characters Are Equally Cool and Shine
And speaking of characters who are also members of the Suicide Squad team. All characters, including members of the Suicide Squad, are equally cool and balanced.
Anyway, nothing looks much more dominant. This is very different from what we saw in the previous Suicide Squad which incidentally was more like the Deadshot & Harley Quinn Show .
And by the way Harley, Margot Robbie in her third appearance as this beautiful psychotic, further proves to us that she is Harley.
If in the future there is something (hopefully not) that ultimately makes him have to step down as Harley, then it will be very difficult and even super impossible for his replacement actress to match Robbie's performance as Quinn.
EXCEPT if the original Harley Quinn ( Batman: The Animated Series ) Tara Strong, later decided to replace Robbie. And it seems this is still impossible to happen.
Bloodsport, Polka-Dot Man, and King Shark Steal the Show
Apart from Harley, for me, the three other characters who have succeeded in stealing attention in this film are: Bloodsport (Idris Elba), Polka-Dot Man (David Dastmalchian), and King Shark (Sylvester Stallone).
Elba as Bloodsport is indeed the right choice to be the deputy leader of Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman). He is authoritative, family oriented, but still emphasizes that he is indeed a villain .
It was the right decision by Gunn to provide the backstory of Bloodsport as the main backstory of the film. Dastmalchian as Polka-Dot Man, so stunning. Thus, making one of Batman's "class C / D" enemies, has now become more highlighted.
Seeing how the backstory is in this film, it seems that this villain should get treatment for the next film or solo series / spin-off later after Peacemaker (John Cena).
And when I just talked about Cena, I can say that his performance as a Peacemaker, is very fitting and effective. Gunn really knows what he's doing and decides.
Witnessing the character and story in this film, we can conclude through this review of The Suicide Squad that it is not wrong for this character to have an HBO Max spin-off series. Peacemaker is perhaps one of the most unique and interesting DC and DCEU characters for us to explore further in its background .
As for the shark king, WOW once again Gunn is a genius and knows what he wants from his film. Rocky Balboa's voice acting, really fits the character of King Shark in this film.
Indeed, the voice acting of David Hayter ( Metal Gear Solid ) as King Shark in The Flash Arrowverse series is much more gripping. But yeah, let's not compare either. Because King Shark The Flash has a very different personality from the Stone version.
In essence, both are good in their respective versions.
Gunn Delivers 2-Step Advancement Against DCEU
In the end, we can conclude through this review of The Suicide Squad , that if Gunn went through this film, he made 2 or even 4 steps towards the DCEU.
And as we read in the first paragraph, it's time for James Gunn to move on to the DCEU. The MCU without Gunn is fine. But a DCEU without Gunn (and yes, Zack Snyder), would be a big deal.
Let's just pray, hopefully after we finish Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 , Gunn wants to consider this step.
Oh yes, for those of you who may not be strong or don't like films that show the process of mutilation (the body is detached), maybe you should strengthen your whole body and mind before finally watching this film.
