According to Collider, the film is set after the First World War and follows the story of Jane Fairchild (Odessa Young), a waitress and aspiring writer. In the trailer, Jane recalls three incidents where she knew she was going to become a writer; his birthday, his first typewriter gift, and a secret event.

Switching between scenes of adulthood and youth, 'Mothering Sunday' explores the days in Jane's time as a maid that she spends with her secret lover Paul (Josh O'Connor) the son of a wealthy neighbor who is engaged to another woman.

Mothering Sunday also won the award for Outstanding Female-Led Feature at the 2021 Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival.

The second trailer for 'Mothering Sunday' is filled with beautiful scenes of Odessa Young against a post-war backdrop. The bright red she often wears attracts attention and reinforces the sensuality between Jane and Paul as they explore their forbidden love.

This film promises a story of love, heartbreak, pain, pleasures of life, and sadness due to the loss of a loved one due to war.

In an interview, director Eva Husson said that being appointed to direct this film was like a privilege.

“An opportunity to explore the fragility and power of sex, love, and their impact on the creativity of female artists…. is something extraordinary," said Husson.
