The draw for the 2022 World Cup will take place this Friday despite uncertainty over the names of the last three qualifiers. However, hat 1 is already established this Tuesday evening after the play-offs in the Europe and Africa zones.
Pot 1 for the draw (scheduled for Friday April 1) for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is set. Even if we only knew 27 of the 32 qualified countries on Tuesday evening, FIFA rules make it possible to determine the seven teams which will be seeded with Qatar (host country and automatically placed in group A).
For the draw, hats are determined based on the FIFA rankings which will be updated on March 31. The simulations based on the results of Tuesday evening and the previous days nevertheless make it possible to obtain a projection of the new classification.
The last three qualifiers will be in pot 4
Brazil, which will become the first nation in the world, is thus placed in this pot 1, with Belgium. Third nation in the FIFA rankings, France is also guaranteed to avoid opponents such as Argentina, England and Spain, already qualified at the end of the group stage of the playoffs. For the composition of the other pots, we still have to wait for the matches of the Concacaf zone, scheduled for the night of Wednesday to Thursday (to know in particular if Mexico and the United States will be qualified, in which case they would find themselves in pot 2 ).
At the time of the draw, three places will still be filled and will be represented in pot 4, regardless of the FIFA ranking of the potential qualifiers. These will be from the last European play-off (Wales against Scotland / Ukraine) and the two intercontinental play-offs.
