Two people died after a seven-story building under construction collapsed in the Nigerian capital Lagos in the early hours of Sunday, September 4, 2022.

Rescue efforts are underway to find other victims of the collapsed building, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said.

The building is being built next to a hospital in the Oniru neighborhood, the agency's chief executive Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said, adding that at least four people were still trapped under the rubble.

Excavators removed debris as the crowd watched.

Building collapses are common in Africa's most populous country, where regulations are not well enforced and building materials are often substandard.
